These simple tips will help you keep your alpaca garment in a good condition for a very long time.

      AIRING

Alpaca knitwear responds well to airing, lay your garment over a chair for a day to let it air.

      HANDWASHING

Only use an approved mild wool detergent and follow the directions for use. Turn your knitwear inside out (if applicable) and soak for at least ten minutes in lukewarm water and gently agitate. Do not wring, rub, knead or stretch.

      RINSING

Rinse gently in clean lukewarm water. Do not wring, rub, knead or stretch.

      DRYING

After rinsing lay flat on a dry, clean towel and roll up inside the towel to squeeze out excess water. If necessary, carefully reshape your garment while still damp. Leave to dry on a new clean towel away from the sun and any heat source.

      DO NOT TUMBLE DRY

      DO NOT DRY CLEAN

      RESHAPING

Knitwear can lose its shape if incorrectly washed or stored. To recover the shape of a garment, place inside out in warm water with a small amount of mild wool detergent.  Soak for 15 minutes then drain. Dry in accordance with the Drying Instructions above

      PILLING

Pilling is where small bobbles of fluff appear on the surface of the garment. There is always a possibility that fine natural knitwear garments will pill, this is a natural and unavoidable process. If pilling occurs this can generally be removed by hand or by using a pilling comb. Take care not to snag stitches.

      STAINS

Treating your garment immediately can help reduce the effects of staining. Always try a patch test on the garment before attempting stain removal.

Dab the area with a solvent-based stain remover like dry cleaning fluid or eucalyptus oil, applying small amounts at a time and working inwards to avoid spreading.

Rinse the treated area with cold water, then hand wash and dry the garment in accordance with the Washing Instructions.

      STORING

Wash, neatly fold and store flat.  You may store in a dry, airtight plastic container.

Do not store on a hanger.

Your alpaca garment does not contain lanolin so we have not experienced issues with moths but there is no guarantee. As a precaution, we recommend using a natural moth repellent such as lavender, rosemary, cloves or dried bay leaves, placed in your cupboard, not on the garment.
